Yesterday I had some awesome conversations about diabetes and the Novo Nordisk bus while working at OMSI (Oregon Museum of Science and Industry). This summer I am volunteering with the Body Worlds 3 exhibit at OMSI, mostly just answering questions and directing human traffic around the museum. While in the volunteer lounge yesterday afternoon, I ended up striking up a few conversations with a couple women that were interested in diabetes and the Changing Diabetes bus tour.
The first conversation was with a woman who was interested to hear about the Oxford Health Alliance and their 3Four50 program. 3Four50 is an interactive website where network members can talk about issues surrounding chronic disease, and the ways we can shape our environment to affect positive change in terms of reducing chronic disease worldwide. Check it out!
The stated goal of 3Four50 is to raise awareness about:
The 3 main risk factors (smoking, poor diet, and lack of physical activity)
That lead to the 4 main chronic diseases (type 2 diabetes, lung disease, heart disease and many cancers)
Which cause 50% of deaths worldwide.
It’s a noble cause.
Basically, it was great to hear that people are interested in these issues, and I look forward to continuing the trend of talking to people one on one to expand the healthy human network.
